Desire...

Hmmmm...seasoned marriage? Middle-aged? What is going on here? I casually mentioned to my husband and his friend while watching television the other night that I thought that "The First Couple" were a breath of fresh air. Now I am not talking about politics. I am talking about a grown up, sophisticated relationship in which the husband "actually looks like he desires her," as Joy Behar stated in the New York Times on Sunday.

Referring to their date in New York, Jon Stewart yells, "How do you compete with that?"
"Take it down a notch dude."
Apparently relationship experts declare that we have an example of a modern fantasy: longtime spouses that remain passionate about one another. Ah, what a novel idea...honoring your partner, desiring your partner, appropriate PDA. Those loving, heartbreaking looks...the dream of every bride at the altar. It is a bit like watching a love story, except this one is true and it is ours in America for all to view.

If that isn't a breath of fresh air, then....sigh.

Love,
Henri

  1. I totally agree! I think that both of them are role models by themselves, but together their relationship is really an inspiration for others around the world!

  3. Wonderful! I sometimes get caught up watching late night trash talk shows...boundless amounts of people in bad relationships, rushing to get together, not taking the time to get to know each other...and worse, never being satisfied and hurting each other, staying together out of hatred and spite....it is very refreshing to see that! I've never seen any couples like this to be honest. That's a direct reflection of our society!
    Great post Henri,
